The Ministry Team

The Ministry Team

Lead Pastor

Pastor Lawrence has been in ministry for 30 years and has Pastored Calvary for 10 years.  He and his wife Tammy have been married for 24 years and have successfully raised three amazing kids Jonathan, Victoria and Bethany.  He is passionate about preaching God's Word and doing what it says.  Pastor Lawrence has a heart to father people with the love and guidance of our Heavenly Father.  He models how to follow Jesus in faithful obedience by simply answering "Yes" to the Lord.  Pastor Lawrence loves learning, confident people, missions, and a Spirit filled church service.  On a personal note, he enjoys a great cup of coffee, a round or two (or three) of golf with friends, as well as "crews'n" in the Jeep and being out on the water.

"Sisterhood"  &  Huronia Section Women's Team Lead

Tammy has been in ministry with Pastor Lawrence for 25 years. She has a phenomenal ability to relate to people - young & old, which has helped in leading her 3 children to find their own love for ministry and people.  She is a sought after conference speaker who leads from humility, humour and life's story.  Tammy is also a Nurse and works at Barrie's own Royal Victoria Hospital where her love for people is genuinely expressed.  Her patients and co-workers alike love her witty humour and ability to bring a shining hope to every situation.  Tammy has accepted the challenge of leading women to a place of honour, humility and deep relationship with the Father.  She also enjoys reality TV, good music and is a sucker for a great dessert.

Youth Pastor - The Root

Magna’s love for Jesus is contagious!  Her deep desire is to see students grow in their God-given gifts, talents, passions, and their walk with Jesus. She longs to strengthen the generational bonds of the church body, encouraging everyone (young and young at heart) to walk in the fullness of who God has called them to be.  Magna has a natural ability to unite people of all ages and backgrounds, to work together to build God’s kingdom here on earth.  Magna is also passionate about lifestyle photography. She loves to capture the beauty of people in an authentic way giving God glory for His creation. In her spare time, she enjoys reading a good book, exploring the outdoors, and enjoying time with family and friends, especially when there is delicious food involved.

Junior High Pastor - Timbers

Christopher's walk with God has been an incredible journey over the past 10 years leading him closer than ever to following God's heart and purpose for his life.  Christopher has a longing to seek God's love and strives every day to be the man God created him to be. Throughout Christopher's years and experience working with kids while coaching mountain biking and cross country skiing, he has found a passion and desire to be a light and inspiration in pastoring Jr. High. Christopher's passion is for ministry with the youth and prays that God will use him in a mighty way to reach the youth of Barrie with the saving message of Jesus Christ. Christopher is married to his beautiful wife Kristen, and together they are raising two incredible children Trinity and Teagan.  Christopher loves to spend his free time fishing or mountain biking while reflecting on what God has in store for his life.

Check out our extended team locally and around the world.

Spiritual Help

Spiritual Help

How Can I Know God Personally?

Just talk to Him.  Say something like, "God, I want to know You."

Here are four truths from the Bible that will help you.

1.  God loves you and created you to know him personally.

The Bible says, “Now this is eternal life: that they may know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent” (John 17:3).  He planned the universe and orchestrated history, including the details of our lives, so that we could become his friends.  So, what prevents us from knowing God personally?

2.  our sin separates us from God.

The Bible says, “All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God” (Romans 3:23).
Man is continually trying to reach God and establish a personal relationship with him through his own efforts, such as a good life, philosophy, or religion – but he inevitably fails.

3.  Jesus Christ is God’s provision for man’s sin.

Jesus died in our place.  “God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us” (Romans 5:8).

4.  receive Jesus Christ as Saviour and Lord.

“As many as received him, to them he gave the right to become children of God, even to those who believe in his name” (John 1:12).

We receive Christ by personal invitation.

Jesus Christ says, “Behold, I stand at the door and knock; if anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in to him” (Revelation 3:20).

You can receive Christ right now by faith through prayer .

Prayer is just talking with God.  He knows your heart, so don’t worry about getting your words just right.  Here is a suggested prayer to guide you:

Lord Jesus, I want to know you personally.
Thank you for dying on the cross for my sins.
I open the door of my life and receive you as
my Savior and Lord. Thank you for forgiving
me of my sins and giving me eternal life. Take
control of my life. Make me the kind of person
 You want me to be.

Does this prayer express the desire of your heart? If it does, pray this prayer right now, and Christ will come into your life as promised.

Did you pray to receive Christ just now?

If so, Way to Go!  Luke 15:7 says that when one sinner accepts Jesus Christ as his or her Saviour the angels rejoice.  So there’s a party going on in heaven right now over your decision!  Remember this date as your “second birthday,” the day you were born into a new life in Christ!  You have God’s Word that he answered your prayer.

Thank God often that Christ is in your life and that he will never leave you (Hebrews 13:5).  You can know on the basis of his promise that Christ lives in you and that you have eternal life from the very moment you invited Him in.

next steps

Pray daily (Philippians 4:6, Colossians 4:2).
Read God’s Word daily (Acts 17:11).  We suggest you begin with the gospel of John.
Obey God moment by moment (John 14:21).
Witness for Christ by your life and words (Matthew 4:19; John 15:8).
Trust God for every detail of your life (1 Peter 5:7).
Hand over control to the Holy Spirit.  Allow Him to empower your daily life and witness (Galatians 5:16-17, Acts 1:8).

And finally…find a good church and get involved there.  Several logs burn brightly together, but put one aside on the cold hearth and the fire goes out.  If you do not belong to a church, do not wait to be invited.  Take the initiative; call the pastor of a nearby church where Christ is honored and his Word is preached.  Start this week, and make plans to attend regularly.

Water Baptism

What is Water Baptism?

It's an act of obedience and public declaration of your decision to follow Jesus Christ.

Baptism doesn’t make you a believer - it shows that you already are.   Just as a wedding ring is the symbol of a marriage covenant, water baptism is the symbol of the relationship you have with God.

  • It illustrates Christ’s burial and resurrection (1 Cor. 15:3-4; Col. 2:12).
  • It illustrates my new life as a Christian (2 Cor. 5:17; Rom. 6:4)
  • Baptism does not save you, only your faith in Christ does that.

Jesus was baptized that way (Matt. 3:16).
Every baptism in the Bible was by immersion (Acts 8:38-39).

Who should be baptized?

Every person who has believed in Christ (Acts 2:41, 8:12-13).

When should I be baptized?

There is no reason to delay.

As soon as you have decided to receive Christ into your life, you can and should be baptized.  (Acts 2:41, 8:35-38).

At Calvary, we wait until our children are old enough to understand the true meaning of baptism before we baptize them.

Yes!  It's a wonderful expression of commitment.

However, it is important to remember that baptism is a personal statement of faith, not a family or group tradition.  It is usually not wise to delay your baptism while waiting on others to join you.  This puts an undue pressure on them, and delays your obedience.

Baby Dedication

Why have your baby dedicated?

Scripture records that parents brought their children to the place of worship to be dedicated. God places great value on the life of children.  The Bible says, "Children are a gift from the Lord; they are a reward from him."  (Psalm 127:3)

During our service we incorporate these themes (gift & reward) by celebrating the birth of your child, praying for your child and praying for you as a parent.

What We Believe

What We Believe

We believe you can find a home here.

We believe the Bible to be the inspired, infallible, and authoritative word of God.

We believe that there is one God, eternally existent in three persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.

We believe in the deity of the Lord Jesus Christ, in His virgin birth, in His sinless life, in His miracles, in His vicarious and atoning death through His shed blood, in His bodily resurrection, in His ascension to the right hand of the Father, and in His personal return in power and in glory.

We believe that for the salvation of lost and sinful men, regeneration by the Holy Spirit is absolutely essential.

We believe in the present ministry of the Holy Spirit by whose indwelling the Christian is enabled to live a godly life.

We believe in the resurrection of the body; they that are saved to the resurrection of life and they that are lost to the resurrection of eternal separation from God.

We believe each Sunday service should include: Worship, the Proclamation of God's Word, the Working of Holy Spirit, and Prayer.
